The UK patent forPropecia, a prescription medicine for male pattern baldness, expired in June 2018. A generic version of the drug, calleddermatostirotect, was introduced in December 2018.Dermatostirotecthas been shown to cause significant pain, reduce hair growth and slow down hair loss for over 6 million men in the UK.
It is challenging to interpreter use of the two drugs and there are challenges with interpretation of colour and shape. The blurs of the face and mouth are common with most men taking the two drugs. Sign language problems can occur with interpretation of colour and shape of the face and lips.
Dermatostirotect is dosed as once daily from 1-3 weeks before sexual activity. It is usually well tolerated and works to increase hair growth. In the trialAO Hair Loss Study(NCT 01550059), the dose of the drug increased hair growth in over 50% of users. This is the same trial with more emphasis on men with male pattern baldness.
The drugs have beentaken under medical supervision. There has been a recent surge in usage of the two drugs, with over 1,900 men now taking the two different brands of the drug. The trials showed that men who take the two different brands of the drug areat least 4.8% less likely to develop male pattern baldness than those taking the original brand.
Branded branded drugs are a type of medication called a generic medication. They are medically identical to their branded counterpart and have the same active ingredients and are licenced for sale in the UK and EU for the same price. ‘Propecia’, a brand name for finasteride, is sold under the brand nameProscarwas for a prescription medicine called finasteride. This drug is not available from other pharmaceutical companies and is not approved by the FDA.
The terminology ‘branded’ and ‘generic’ means the drug is chemically the same as its branded counterpart. This means it has the same strength and quality as its branded counterpart but is licenced for sale in the UK and EU.
Finasteride is available in the following strengths: 5 milligrams (MEN), 10 milligrams (MEN), and 20 milligrams (MEN).
Finasteride is a prescription medication used to treat male pattern hair loss in men with a condition called androgenetic alopecia. It is the most common type of hair loss in men. The drug works by preventing the growth of follicles in areas of hair loss.
The active ingredient in finasteride is finasteride. Finasteride belongs to a class of drugs called atypical antiprotozoals.
Atypical antiprotozoal drugs are sometimes used to treat other types of hair loss. For example, ketoconazole and itraconazole are used to treat.
Finasteride works by affecting the sensitivity of hair follicles to hormones. It inhibits the action of an enzyme called type II 5-alpha reductase. This prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that causes hair loss.
In men who experience hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), excess amounts of DHT are found to shrink over time. This causes hair follicles to become less sensitive to hormones and eventually stops hair loss.
Finasteride does not treat an other type of hair loss. Men who experience hair loss from areas of hair loss will not be treated with this drug.
The half life of finasteride is around 3 to 4 months. It is not recommended for children under 3 years of age.

Timothy Shippa (Liam), Matthew L.Alex Roach, Laura L.A new study has shown that finasteride causes hair loss, but it also can lead to prostate cancer.
Finasteride, sold under the brand name Propecia, is thought to cause hair loss in about 70 per cent of men taking it.
Dr Stewart Adams, a urology expert and a leading urologist, wrote:
“This is a serious problem and should never be the main reason for the cancer.”
He said: “I would be reluctant to talk about this with a doctor.”
But Dr Adams said: “There is no doubt that hair loss can happen to many men, but it can also happen to someone who is not having it.”
Dr Adams, a urologist at the University of Manchester, said: “You have a lot of people who don’t have any symptoms, or have certain medical conditions that affect their hair.”
He added: “I’ve seen a lot of people who have this type of cancer and are suffering from it. You have to stop using Propecia and start taking your medication as soon as you feel the signs of the cancer coming back.”
Dr Adams said that the study showed that hair loss had been occurring for more than 20 years.
“In fact, it was the first time the findings had been reported to the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency,” he said. “We’re looking at the last 20 years and we’re trying to find out more about finasteride.”
The findings, from a large randomised clinical trial on men with male pattern baldness, were published on May 7 in the British Journal of Dermatology.
Finasteride is the active ingredient in the generic Propecia, a treatment for the condition. It was first sold in 1997 and was originally developed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Finasteride works by lowering levels of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is responsible for hair loss. By blocking the action of DHT, Propecia can slow down hair loss and encourage regrowth.
Dr Adams said that hair loss could be caused by many things, including the use of medications such as finasteride and minoxidil.
“I don’t want to be a statistician,” he said. “I think this study was important because the data was from a large trial of people who have male pattern baldness. It shows that there are no significant differences between those who take finasteride and those who do not.”
He added that the findings were important because the study showed that the effect was already apparent in about 70 per cent of men. “We know that this drug is only effective in men who are suffering from male pattern baldness, and the results are not so clear,” he said.
Dr Adams said: “So we can’t just say it’s a placebo. It’s not a clinical trial,” he said.
He added that he thought that the study was not going to be a good fit for a new study. He said that the results of the trial showed that the effect was already apparent in about 70 per cent of men.
The hair loss in some of the men in the study was “not a good enough” to warrant a trial of finasteride and that they would have to wait until after the end of the study.
“It may not be in the best interest of the men, but we’re taking the decision as to whether to continue using the medication or stop taking it altogether,” he said.
Dr Adams added that he thought that finasteride was working for about 20 per cent of men taking the medication.
He said: “I think this is a very good thing, but I would say this is a very good decision for men who are not getting it and want it.
“It’s not something I want to make a big deal about. I think it’s a good thing that we’re taking this decision and we can go forward with it.”
A study is now underway to see if it will be able to get the approval of the Food and Drug Administration.Propecia (finasteride 1mg) is a drug used to treat male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that causes hair follicles to shrink and eventually stop producing hair. DHT is a hormone that can cause male pattern baldness by causing hair loss.
Propecia has been shown to be effective in reducing hair loss and promoting hair regrowth in men with male pattern baldness. It works by blocking the enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the primary male sex hormone that causes hair loss.
The primary use of Propecia in treating male pattern baldness is to prevent or slow down hair loss. This is because DHT is the main culprit in causing hair loss. Propecia has also been shown to promote hair growth by blocking the conversion of testosterone into DHT, thus helping to prevent further hair loss.
In addition to its use for treating male pattern baldness, Propecia also has some benefits for some women.
